Sabotaging Your Own Personal Development Goals? How to Successfully Change Yourself
Do you find yourself unable to change yourself or get rid of bad habits no matter how hard you try? Do you find yourself starting out well on a new personal development goal but suddenly turning back around and relapsing on your old bad habits in the process? You are on self-destruct mode; you are sabotaging your own chances of putting your life in order.
What's the Root Problem?
A lot of people fall prey to self sabotage. They refuse to make changes and positive developments in their lives. And the reason is that they have unresolved conflicts inside them. No matter how hard you try to consciously make a change or a clean break in life, these inner conflicts, which are embedded deep inside you, will still come out and create negative thoughts in your head, and this will almost always lead to negative consequences and results.
So before you list down all your resolutions to try and change your life, you first have to resolve your inner conflicts.
So how does these inner conflicts affect our lives? As an example, consider a person who wants to stop smoking. They consciously know that smoking is bad for them, and they have read about all the methods they can use to get rid of their smoking habit. But still, they don't follow anti-smoking advice or they neglect to bring their nicotine gum or put their nicotine patches. This is because they subconsciously don't want to stop smoking, either because their minds are still set on how smoking makes them feel or because they've developed a reliance on smoking as a way of dealing with stress. So before that person can get rid of smoking, he needs to find a different way to attain the similar feeling he gets when he smoke, or a different way of dealing with stressful situations in life.
How to Recognize Your Inner Conflicts
Are there any changes you want to make in yourself and in your life? If so, then you have to first recognize any inner conflicts that may get in your way of changing. To figure out the things that are holding you back from your personal transformation goals, try to visualize yourself achieving the change you desire. What do you feel when you imagine yourself as a changed person? Do you feel any fear or sadness at losing something when you change? If so, then that's what's holding you back. Be careful and patient with yourself because inner conflicts reside in the subconscious mind.
How to Overcome Your Inner Conflicts
Inner conflicts are impossible to resolve consciously. You need to go down to where they have set down their roots, which is your subconscious mind. The best way to alter the state of your subconscious mind is to fill it with positive subliminal messages about yourself without your internal conflicts.
Once you recognize the conflict that's holding you back and get rid of them, it will easier to change your attitude and personality and start thinking and acting more positively.
